Meet Ali
Ali is 23 years old and comes from a rural village where access to education has only recently become possible. As part of the first generation in his community to attend school, he embraced the opportunity to learn and progressed through primary and middle school.
To continue his education, Ali had to leave home and move to Kaolack, where he now lives in a daara while attending secondary school. Adjusting to life in a new town was challenging at first, but he showed determination in finding his way and continuing his studies.
Ali was introduced to the Diapalante Community Education Centre by a classmate and has been attending regularly since 2021. The Centre has become an important part of his life, offering both educational support and a strong sense of community. He describes it as a second family, where learners support each other and share their experiences.
At the Centre, Ali has developed a wide range of skills. He used a computer for the first time there and can now carry out research, type documents, and use basic office technology. He has also made strong progress in mathematics, French, and particularly English, where he is now among the top students in his class.
In addition to his own learning, Ali contributes by supporting other learners, helping those who need assistance with Arabic and English. This reflects the collaborative spirit of the Centre, where learners grow together.
Ali’s ambition is to pass his final school examinations and continue to university—an achievement that would be a first for his family. He hopes to become a teacher or work with international organisations, using his education to create new opportunities for himself and others.
His story highlights the importance of accessible education and supportive environments. With determination and the right support, learners like Ali are able to overcome barriers and build brighter futures.
