Supporting Teenagers to Grow in Confidence and Skills

The Diapalante Community Education Centre welcomes learners of all ages, including teenagers who are already in school but need additional support to succeed and build confidence. The Centre offers a different learning environment—one that is flexible, interactive, and inclusive. Teenagers often learn alongside adults, benefiting from shared experiences and mutual support, while also taking part in activities designed especially for their age group.

This mix of learners creates a dynamic atmosphere where everyone contributes. Many young people not only learn at the Centre but also take on responsibilities—helping others, supporting activities, and developing leadership skills.

Voices from Young Learners

Teenagers who attend the Centre speak about the impact it has had on their learning, confidence, and personal development.

Betty explains how the Centre supports her studies and future ambitions:

She attends lessons in English, IT, and mathematics, all of which help her at school and prepare her for future employment. She values the supportive environment where learners help each other and enjoy greater freedom to explore and ask questions.

Fallou highlights the personal growth he has experienced:

He describes the Centre as a place where he feels comfortable and confident. Previously shy and hesitant to speak in public, he has gained confidence through activities such as performance sessions and participation in the Young Leaders programme, where he now supports younger learners.

Cheikh reflects on the long-term benefits of his involvement:

Having attended the Centre for several years, he has developed strong academic results at school, supported by access to learning resources such as IT and the library. He also takes on a mentoring role, helping others while continuing to develop his own skills.

Building Skills for the Future

The experiences of these young learners show that the Centre provides much more than academic support. It offers opportunities to build confidence, develop leadership, and learn in a collaborative environment.

By supporting teenagers alongside adults, the Centre encourages a culture of shared learning and mutual respect. This approach helps young people strengthen their education, prepare for employment, and become active, confident members of their community.
