From Learner to Role Model

The Diapalante Community Education Centre not only supports learners in building skills, but also helps them grow into role models within their communities.

Meet Moustapha

Moustapha is 21 years old and comes from the village of Wayende. After completing his Qur’anic studies and primary education, he moved to Kaolack to continue his studies, showing determination to pursue further learning despite the challenges of leaving home.

He is now in the final stage of his secondary education at a Franco-Arab school, where he is known for his commitment and strong work ethic. Living within walking distance of the Centre, he attends regularly and has made the most of every opportunity available to him.

At the Diapalante Community Education Centre, Moustapha has developed a wide range of skills. He has gained confidence in using computers, including Word and Excel, strengthened his abilities in reading, writing, and mathematics, and excelled in English, where he has been among the top students in his class.

Moustapha also shares what he learns with others. He carefully keeps his learning materials and uses them to support friends and family in his village. As a result, people have begun to call him “Teacher”—a title that reflects both his growing knowledge and his willingness to help others learn.

In addition to academic skills, Moustapha has benefited from personal development and leadership sessions at the Centre. These have helped him build confidence, develop cooperation skills, and strengthen his sense of direction for the future.

His ambition is to become an Arabic teacher, using his education to pass on knowledge and support the development of his community. Through his dedication and positive example, he is already inspiring other young people, including classmates who have followed him in joining the Centre.

Moustapha’s journey highlights how education can create a ripple effect—benefiting not only the learner but also their family, peers, and wider community. With continued support, he is well on his way to achieving his goals and helping others do the same.
