Meet Marie
Marie is 18 years old and recently moved to Kaolack from a rural village where access to education was limited. Although she began learning the Qur’an as a child, she was unable to attend school due to the distance and lack of transport.
Now working as an apprentice tailor in the central market, Marie enjoys her work but found that not being able to read or write made daily tasks difficult. Determined to improve her situation, she joined the Diapalante Community Education Centre.
For the past eight months, Marie has been attending regularly, building her skills step by step. She is now able to write her name, read simple texts, carry out basic calculations, and record customers’ measurements—important achievements that are already making a difference in her work.
Marie is proud of her progress and continues to grow in confidence. Her ambition is to become a designer, run her own dressmaking business, and travel. With continued learning, she is moving steadily towards these goals.
