The Diapalante Community Education Centre continues to expand its reach, providing inclusive learning opportunities for children, young people, and adults, including many who have never had access to formal education.
Recent Activities and Impact
Since the beginning of the academic year, around 500 learners have taken part in the Centre’s programmes. These include basic literacy in Wolof and French, numeracy skills, English communication, and computer literacy. Together, these form essential foundations for work, daily life, and future opportunities.
The Centre’s flexible approach ensures that learning can be adapted to suit the varied needs of its members. A strong emphasis on collaboration means that learners support one another, building confidence, independence, and a shared sense of progress.
Alongside academic learning, personal development and public speaking sessions help participants strengthen their confidence, improve communication, and express their ideas more effectively—skills that are vital for both employment and active participation in society.
Learning Beyond the Classroom
The Centre also organises activities that address wider community needs and build practical life skills.
A recent first aid workshop, delivered with the support of the Red Cross, equipped participants with essential, life-saving knowledge. This not only increased confidence but also fostered a sense of responsibility and mutual support within the community.
A street theatre performance exploring the realities of illegal migration encouraged open discussion and reflection. Through storytelling and shared experiences, participants were able to engage with complex issues, raise awareness, and express their views with confidence.
