Meet Mbagnick
Mbagnick is a 44-year-old market trader and father of four. He runs a stall in Kaolack’s central market, selling clothing, shoes, and baby items. Like many small business owners, he works long hours and faces constant pressure to earn enough to support his family.
Before joining the Centre, Mbagnick was unable to read or write in French or English. This made it difficult to manage important aspects of his business, from communicating with customers and suppliers to keeping basic records. Determined to improve his situation, he joined the Diapalante Community Education Centre after hearing about it from a fellow trader.
Since then, Mbagnick has shown remarkable commitment. He attends regularly in the evenings after finishing work, making the most of every opportunity to learn. With consistent effort and individual support, he has made significant progress in literacy and is beginning to build practical English skills related to his trade.
These new skills are already making a difference. Mbagnick is now more confident when dealing with customers and suppliers, and he has started to use simple digital tools to support his business. His growing confidence has also encouraged him to look beyond local markets.
Recently, Mbagnick reached an important milestone by travelling abroad to source goods directly from suppliers. This step represents a major development for his business and reflects the confidence he has gained through learning.
Mbagnick is also a valued member of the Centre community. He shares his progress with others, supports fellow learners, and contributes generously in small but meaningful ways.
